CoPilot Pressure Controller - 2007.5-2009.5 Dodge 68RFE (Production dates between 2/2007 and 7/2009), complete with harness.

The ATS Co-Pilot transmission computer has many features that increase transmission reliability and performance. The Co-Pilot can be used on a stock factory 68-RFE transmissions or any aftermarket transmission although the ATS Co-Pilot has been specifically designed for use with the ATS transmission package.

In situations where the vehicle owner requires transmission holding ability above approximately 400HP the addition of the ATS Transmission and Five Star torque converter will be required due to the fact that the factory transmission and converter have mechanical and hydraulic limitations. Regardless of the transmission that the Co-Pilot is installed on all functionality will be present after the Co-Pilot is installed. The Co-Pilot also has a feature built into it that totally eliminates the problematic "low-sprag or low-roller clutch" blow up syndrome that is common with the 68-RFE transmission. This is better described in the bottom of this document.

Dodge/Ram designed the transmission, torque converter and transmission control system to be part of the "torque management" system. In large part this elaborate and complex design severely limits the torque capacity, performance and functionality of the transmission. The stock "torque management" design disables and limits the power that can be put through the transmission in situations when the power is most needed. The 68-RFE Co-Pilot eliminates the torque management based transmission control by providing all signals necessary to achieve proper line pressure, clutch application and to TCC control to provide for maximum transmission strength and performance while never setting a check engine light. All factory diagnostics are still active and the factory computer will notify the driver if there is a mechanical or electrical problem with the transmission.

Features of the 68-RFE Co-Pilot:
The ATS Co-Pilot commands the line pressure and internal clutch timing within the transmission to vastly improve the reliability of the 68-RFE 6-speed transmission. The ATS Co-Pilot has 4 driving settings; stock mode and 3 performance modes. To switch between these four modes, you simply use the UP and DOWN arrow keys on the front panel. Switching between driving modes can be done while driving.

Stock Mode 1 - (Down arrow button, purple light to full right)
The stock mode on the Co-Pilot give you stock like shifts while still maintaining higher than stock line pressures allowing for a conservative increase in power. This setting is great for daily driving, and low engine load situations.

Performance Mode 2 and 3 - (Purple light in center of display)
These Modes are great for more aggressive driving and firmer shifts. This mode will be able to handle slightly more power. This is recommended for heavier towing and higher tuner settings.

Race Mode 4 - (Up arrow button, purple light to full left)
This mode if for racing, sled pulling, or high horsepower situations up to about 400 hp on stock transmissions. This mode will give you the firmest shifts and highest line pressure. This has the greatest ability to hold added power.

Everyday driving, towing, racing. Stock transmission, aftermarket transmission or ATS Transmission. The Co-Pilot is the only way to go if you are looking for the best in transmission performance. Please call for more details.

68RFE Co-pilot testimonial

Installed the Co-pilot last nite and did some driving today and what a difference. First of all I have a stock tranny and running a smarty , program #14me set at sw-7 130 hp. That was my base line. I had to baby it at that setting to get the best fuel mileage and wouldnt get on it to much to save the tranny. After the install, I set the ATS Co-pilot to performance #3 setting as this according to ATS is for slightly modified trucks. The shifts were direct and firm. You could definitely feel the lock-up and the co-pilot light indicates when you are in lock-up. The RPM is raised between shifts and doesnt drop or lag like the stock tranny. The power feels stronger through the gears and you are not afraid anymore to add it to the wheels with the Smarty. A huge improvement and shift points are where they should be. I then said hey if it runs this great on sw-7, why not kick it up to sw-9 or 170 hp setting?? When I did this I also set the ATS Co-pilot to performance #4 for heavy modified trucks. My truck didnt like that setting as the shifts were much harder, and the RPMs would get high in the 3000 + range for the over drive gears and would act a little strange? So on the fly I went back performance setting #3 and holy S#$*T it was like a rocket. When you would nail it it would down shift, lock-up in 5th up shift to 6th lock-up again and flat out fly. I am no longer a drag racer or puller, however, the feeling of the power to the ground is amazing . Your feeling of confidence in the trannys ability is immediately is restored I have not driven a truck with H & S over-drive so I cant compare the difference, but the ATS co-pilot has completely satisfied my needs. I have not tried the stock setting or performance levels #1 & #2 yet as they are more for towing applications and lower power settings. Im sure they will perform equally as well. I know these units are expensive, but I would highly recommend it vs. having to spend more for a built tranny. I think one would only need to get an ATS torque converter in the future if your power levels exceed 500 hp or more.

After 2days of driving Im getting used to the new co-pilot. I have cranked the smarty to sw-9 on program 14me @170hp and have left it there for now. I previously ran a daily driver on sw-7 @130hp without the co-pilot. I really like the ability to use the higher setting on the smarty and the tranny seems to like it as well on performance setting #3 with quick shifts and firm lock-ups. I dont hot rod around, but like the extra power on the freeway...on the higher HP setting the throttle position feels different and after awhile you look down at your speedometer and find yourself speeding. Im no longer worrying about the tranny anymore but rather enjoying the new driving experience and feel of the truck. Im hoping the co-pilot is helping my trannys longevity even with the increased Hp as Im about or close to the 450hp level. I dont intend to do any more HP modifications, and if all continues to go well, eventually install an ATS torque converter and valve body sometime in the distant future.

Seriously this thing is awesome!! On the drive over (on stock setting) I tried some pulls and could start from 200+ rpm lower than before in 5 & 6 before Id start to get any tc shutter. Also it holds the lock up in 5&6 longer when it does downshift your instantly there. None of the sluggish raises or drops in rpm and no more "oozing" into the next gear. Quick and crisp! At the track I guess I misinterpreted the power settings and ran it on stock mode for most of the night and didnt see any personal bests, but could already feel a difference though the poor performance was 100% my fault. It wasnt until I switched to performance level 1 that I was truely impressed though. On my first pass with it I hit 13.74 @ 102.58!! Thats almost 2 mph faster than my previous best running the same set up with a so-so launch. I couldnt hear it but a friend told me later that I chirped the tires through the first 3 gears and thats with drag radials on! As diesellady said it does shift through the gears right, giving you way more rpm in each, especially 4, 5, and 6 and where before I wouldnt get 100% lock up sometimes, it never missed all night (stock setting or performance 1). It is a little unnerving seeing the truck run to 3500 rpms before shifting, though, and on the next pass (last of the night) I couldnt help my reaction to let off until it shifted . I cant help to wonder if Id had more runs how much better I could have done. People tell me Ive been lucky to have not had tranny problems and where before all I could do was, now I can attribute a big part of that to ATS.
